In this episode, I just want to spend a few minutes to explain the difference between 4 different leads source categories to build your network marketing business.
Hopefully we can shed some light on which one you should focus your energy on.
Building a network marketing business requires recruiting prospects into a distribution channel. I have a met a few people who didn’t really understand leveraging other people’s effort and team work.
Network marketing is the true definition of “team work makes the dream work”. Without building a team, a.k.a recruiting new reps every day, you can’t build your network marketing business
So let’s talk about 4 different sources of leads to building your network marketing business:
1. Existing Circle of Influence:
This comprises of the people you know already. You may or may not have influence with them. But you have a relationship of some sort with this people.
- Family
- Friends
- Cousins
- Co-Workers
It’s okay to turn some of them into leads for your business but I have to warn you about this source of leads.
Like I said earlier, you may not have the required level of influence to sponsor new reps from this source of leads.
In fact, most people don’t have the influence. Don’t feel alone if no one among your family and friends wants to join your business. The good news is existing influence is not:
…a requirement to build your network marketing business.
I was just listening to an audio from one of my mentors yesterday. It was about some upline guy who walked around town boasting about recruiting the first 60 of his family and friends into his business.
That’s good for him but… your situation is probably not going to work out like that. What he had that may have not been disclosed is influence. With Network Marketing 2.0, building influence is a default part of the game.
(NOTE: Want to copy & paste my personal prospecting system into your business? This is how I was able to build my downline to 7,000+, recruit 20 – 30 reps per month, generating $13,000 – $15,000 in a single day WITHOUT the need to mess with my family and friends ever again? PLUS you will discover my Automatic Downline Builder Program. post_name; ?>&popup=1″ target=”_blank”>
2. Referrals
Generating referrals as a source of lead for building your networking business is derivative of your existing circle of influence. So it does, kind of, take us back to that.
However, I needed to mention it. In network marketing 2.0, it expands beyond just literal word of mouth. Believe it or not, every time you visit my blog or consume any of my content, you are referring others as well.
From a traditional standpoint, referral is one of the most profitable sources of leads because someone else edified your credibility. But like I said, it’s even better in the digital age.
Not all sources of leads are created equal. Therefore, highly pre-qualified and quality leads can be expensive but also converts very well.
That’s why there are groups such as BNI in the small business world strictly designed for members to refer business to each other personally.
Referral is a source of lead that you can’t just depend on. It’s a well that will dry off if you don’t have direct sources of leads.
That’s why I laugh when someone tells me their business is 100% by referral. Building a network marketing business definitely needs a more proactive approach to generating leads.
Once you start generating lead pro-actively, referrals will happen by default.
3. Leads from Search Traffic
This type of leads are prospects that are already searching for a solution to a problem; or better yet searching for an answer to a question. It’s the best quality of traffic there is if everything else were equal.
To be honest everything else is not equal. There are other factors such as time, distractions and just good ‘ole life.
But isn’t it good to know that there are tons of thousands of people on the search engines searching for a way to build a business from home?
If you are positioned to help this folks, by default you can also build your network marketing business… almost effortlessly.
To generate traffic and leads for your network marketing business from the search engines, we use a concept called search engine optimization (S.E.O). This marketing strategy is FREE but that also depends on what your definition of ‘free’ is.
There are some paid tools that will ease the process. There are also some best practices that we’ve covered in our SEO for Network Marketers series.
What I can tell you is that I’ve made 100’s of 1,000’s of $$$ from this marketing strategy. Do you know what’s even better? One of the people that went through our teachings in SEO now generates 100,000 visitors to his blog on a monthly basis.
Imagine…
To build your network marketing business comes down to one thing…
Marketing is your gateway to building an audience and if you do it right, your level of influence will grow exponentially by default. What could your income be if you had 100,000 visitors attracted to a small website you own monthly?
4. Leads from Interrupt Traffic
Nowadays, your best prospects and leads are already hanging out online–either by their smart phone device or on a computer. They’re socializing on social media, reading some celebrity gossip blog or playing a game.
Interrupt marketing involves the ability to place an ad where they can see it. It’s almost like a billboard.
This marketing strategy is different from search engine marketing. They were NOT searching; at least not in the moment. So with ads, you have to get 2 things right.
- Targeting
- Engagement
In order to do that, you must pique the right interest. Your marketing message on the ad literally need to be strong enough to interrupt whatever your prospect was doing.
That takes specific skills.
You can find examples of such ads on Facebook while socializing, browsing through newsfeed, commenting on your favorite guru post etc. BOOM! Ad says:
“Check out the little secret to becoming happier with your results.”
Interrupt marketing is increasing in leaps and because of it:
No one can completely claim lack of leads or traffic. The only valid excuse would be lack of skills.
Building a network marketing business requires marketing skill.
There are more leads sources out there but most of them can be categorized under this 4 categories. If you want to build your network marketing business, I suggest dis-empowering forces out of your control.
Mastering search and interrupt marketing will dis-empower your dependence on existing circle of influence that you have no control over. It comes with referral by default.
Search and interrupt marketing skills will increase your level of influence, authority and expert status. People will beg to join your network marketing business. Taking the time to learn is absolutely worth it.
