1. People
There are 3 P’s in business. If you watch CNBC’s The Profit, you’ve heard this before. The first in the P’s stand for people. You need to fill your pipeline with people. The money you are going to make as a contractor is in someone’s hands.
The people are on the internet search on Google right now for various things. Thank goodness. In this digital age, you do not have shortage of people. You may however lack the skills of attracting them.
2. Product
The 2nd P stands for product a.k.a you services. You are offering a product and service of general contracting. Therefore the 2nd point on this checklist is covered.
However, if you want to build your general contractor services into a leveraged business system, you should have related products to sell as well. It’s the same reason why “Best Buy” just don’t sell Televisions alone. They also sell antennas and power cords. These days, they sell more like the Amazon fire stick.
3. Process
Now we are getting closer to the money. In order to create revenue, we must connect your ‘product’ with the ‘people’. The 3rd P is the process that we use to do that. The process has 3 different elements to it; Create, Capture and Convert. Let’s dive in.
4. Create
When your ideal prospect wants to hire a general contractor, they typically go to one place. Google. They search for an array of keyword phrases; starting from things like “Los Angeles General Contractor”.
What are you creating? You need to create online content that caters to this audience. When they search, you went them to find your video channel or your website. But there is more.
5. Invest
A lot more of the market share search for other terms related to actual questions, problems and pain that can potentially lead to hiring of a general contractor both in the short and long term. You need to invest time and possibly money in learning what your potential clients are searching for on Google and other search engines.
6. Learn
Let me repeat that. Do a thorough research and learn what your potential clients are searching for on Google and other search engines. Phrases such as quick fix for a broken toilet.
7. Do
You probably have this part covered. You should be an actual general contractor because everything else in this checklist will be a 2nd nature to you. So yes. Doing is a part of the checklist.
8. Teach
Record videos of you doing quick fixes activities when you have an opportunity to do so. You may also want to write step by step tutorial articles online for these type questions and problems.
This is a leveraged activity for your business because you do this work one time but the content continue to work to attract more people and clients to your business. The effect is residual; ever heard of residual income?
Most people will end up having to hire a contractor. Guess who they would hire if they choose to hire a contractor. You! You have proven to be the expert by leading with value; teaching quick fixes online. Most contractor will never do that and that’s why they struggle.
That brings me to the end of the “create” part of the process of connecting the people to your product line and services.
9. Capture
Typically, people that watch your video or read your article will not do business with you on the first exposure. Some will and some won’t; majority won’t. Therefore if you don’t have a way of capturing their attention, you will lose out on lots of business.
The good news is that there are lots of automated ways to capture attention. You can package 5-10 of your created online content into one document and offer it for free in exchange for online viewers and visitors contact information such as email address.
Then you can continue to follow up daily or weekly with a newsletter contain new content as you create them.
This is free contractor advertising at its best.
When you do that, your trust and brand equity will increase in the eyes of this prospects. Not only will some of them hire you, they will refer other to you over and over again.
10. Convert
It’s time to get paid. Here is the good news. Conversion started from checkpoint 1. Gone are the days when you have to hard close people using sleazy methods into hiring you.
It doesn’t matter what online contractor advertising ideas you want to execute. When you lead with helping people with your content first, enough people will hire and refer you to the point where you need to hire others to help fill project orders.
If you’ve been wondering how you can tap into the social media marketing age, this is it. On social media, the last thing you want to be doing to is plastering ads and straight pitch. The best thing to do is lead with value.
