When you joined network marketing, you were told to make a list of your closest associates and acquaintances if you did it right. If you were an average person, that probably came as a shocking surprise and it was scary.

When I joined in April 2009, I was told to setup my first PBR (private business reception) that I would invite all 100 people on my list to. I wasn’t as shocked as a average person because I had already been a successful business owner.

I knew marketing is key to success.

In fact, I had already created over $3 million on transactions personally. It just never involved having to personally invite my friends to a meeting at my home.

It was weird to me but whatever…

If a business model makes sense, I do whatever it takes to achieve high performance and that’s what I did. I made a list of well beyond 100–every one on my rolodex were on that list.

I invited them all and received about 50 -60 confirmation and RSVPs for my first home meeting PBR. About 23 people showed up and my upline leader at the time did the presentation.

2 people joined from that meeting. Not bad.

There was a friend of mine that I expected him to join because we had been partners in the past in other business ventures.

As I was walking him to his car, I found myself trying to convince him but honestly he wasn’t interested. I just couldn’t tell on his face.

I’m pretty good at listening to details and following instruction. Yes, I am one of those coachable ones.

I was not going to prejudge anyone as instructed in a ton of leadership training. I had already gone through so much reading and video training within my first 3 – 5 days in the business.

What came as a surprise to me was that, as I was walking someone who was not interested in joining to the car, an old friend of mine already pulled out her credit card to pay the $500.

I didn’t pay attention to her honestly because I prejudged her. What I came to find out after was that I missed an important step after the presentation.

I didn’t collect decisions. Actually, that is a scary thing for most people to do.

Traditionally it was this way. You would be close to the door and simply pay attention to those who wants to ask questions right there without leaving the room.

If no one shows interest, go to anyone who grabbed snacks and ask, “what do you like most about the presentation?”

If you had to walk a person to their car while others were still in the room, they probably aren’t interested. If I hadn’t done that, may be more people would have joined…. ya right..LOL

Anyway I made my first list and got about 20% of it exposed to the presentation and 1 person joined. In my opinion, that’s a pretty cool conversion. How can I do that over and over? LOL.

That’s not how an average person sees it. In fact, that number is pretty discouraging to most people but little to no wonder why most people can’t be entrepreneurs.

Another friend of mine from my days of working at FedEx did pull out the credit card after getting a few questions answered. Like most people, that was where production stopped.

Well.. not for me. Remember, I’m one of the champions because clearly I’m still here 6 years later.

Yes it stopped with that strategy and I remember asking my upline leader at the time. “What else I could do to get this going?”

His only answer was another home meeting. As much as I wanted to say no, I went for it and we recruited no one.

Then my brother joined and did his own home meeting and crickets…

Some claim that it’s not ‘using’. It’s more like sharing… yea right.

If you are going to be successful in any business, one of the first 2 skills you need is an ability of honesty and to be objective. Let’s be honest with your goals.

You want to build a business from home first and you found out 2nd that you need to build a team. There you decided with the advice of your MLM company to use/share with your family and friends.

I know.. it’s a harsh truth.
